Model Home Shoot with Sony a6000

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a model home with a consumer grade Sony a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera..  This camera is not only very inexpensive but light and small which is such a welcome change from the big heavy Nikon DSLR Cameras I use daily. In addition to this camera body I used a 16-50mm “Kit” lens which actually preformed quite well for something so inexpensive.

All photos were hand held using only available light and no tripod.

Now I’m not about to go out and sell all my Nikon gear and stop using lights and a tripod but it was sure refreshing to get these results from something as simple as a $400 Mirrorless Sony Camera..

Viaggio Estate & Winery is located in the middle of one of the most famous wine making regions in California, in the “heart” of Lodi’s Wine Country. Conveniently accessible from both Hwy 99 and I-5, Viaggio is a secluded and private estate with classic elegance nestled among beautiful walnut orchards and the serenity of the river. Viaggio‘s stunning and exquisite backdrop of the Mokelumne River offers plush outside grounds and several venues, each with gorgeous picturesque views.

As I shoot many weddings every season here at Viaggio with my good friend Lori of Lori Makabe Photography I had the opportunity to talk with owner Teri Lawrence about shooting promotional photos for them in 2015 and we felt it would be a wonderful opportunity to also include some photos featuring the fantastic Christmas decorations that are now up in the estates mansion.

As you enter the grand entrance of the mansion you are greeted by a 20′ Christmas tree complete with all the decorations. As you can see it’s really quite breath-taking and beautifully appointed.

In addition to six fully decorated Christmas trees the entire home is decorated from floor to ceiling with nothing left untouched..

So if you feel like getting your Christmas Holiday Season going be sure to come down to the Lodi wine country and pay a visit to the Viaggio Winery Estates on the river in beautiful Acampo California…

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a 7,500 sq ft  estate in Sacramento’s most prestigious community Los Lagos.

Built in 2004, this old world Tuscan Estate Screams quality in every way. I have rarely photographed a home with such attention to detail. The custom wood cabinetry was some of the finest I have ever photographed. From the study to the screening room there is custom woodwork  everywhere.

Starting with the exterior courtyard with fireplace to the dramatic entry featuring a staircase with hand forged railing, everything was custom craftsmanship. From the master bedroom  and bath, to the private screening room next to the game room, this 5 bedroom 5 bath estate would be my pick to host my next block party..

The grounds front and back have been landscaped to perfection with no detail left unattended.

 

 

 

Listed at just under $2M this Los Lagos estate is certainly one of my newest photography portfolio pieces.

Photos from a recent Real Estate Shoot in beautiful Arden Park California.  Filled with wonderful woods and charming period posters this home just had such a great feeling to it.. the kind of place you could call home..

A fantastic kitchen completely updated and re designed, no detail was left untouched. Check out the floor and how it is perfect with the rich woods.

I personally love this office with such a warm feel to it.

Add even though this master bedroom is on the small side, how about that open feeling you would get.. just step right out the the beautiful garden for your morning coffee.

Rich Baum Photography shoots the Best Western Roseville Inn with the CamRanger

I got a call the other day to photograph the Best Western Roseville Inn  and this gave me the opportunity  to try out the newest addition to my ever expanding real estate photography package, the CamRanger.

CamRanger is a wireless camera controller which allows the photographer to have full access to all the camera controls on a wireless device. In this case it was my new Samsung Galaxy  7″  Tablet purchased from Costco for a mere $159 

So in a nut shell this device allows me to see the images I am taking as I am taking them on a nice 7″ screen and allows me to completely control every aspect of my camera remotely. From shutter speed, white ballence, settings like manual, aperature, bracketing and even “Live View”

Now, I don’t need to run back and forth from setting my lights to check out the little 3″ screen on the back of my camera, I can now take the photo right at the light and adjust as needed..  And after just one shoot with this “God Send” I will surely never leave it at home as it’s about the best add on device I have ever used and will ultimately help me produce the highest caliber work and save a ton of time to boot..

Pacifico Dance Company @ The Harris Center For The Arts

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the Pacifico Dance Company in Folsom CA at the Harris Center For The Arts (formerly known as 3 Stages)

This was a full 2 1/2 hour performance complete with about 50 dancers and a full Mariachi band. Lots of action and as always a great lighting set provided by the Harris Center.

Shot with a pair of Nikon D700s and a combo of Nikon 16-35 f4, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 and the “Concert Killer” Nikon 300 f2.8 I was able to shoot super wide and get really tight from all the way back shooting next to the mixing board.

 

As with photographing any dance performance I have the challenge of capturing fast action shots combined with a very low light environment so keeping the shutter up to 1/320sec was a constant and the D700s high ISO ability was a super important part to the puzzle.
